6 Complications Not Taking Care of Diabetes Can Lead To.
Hey friends Dr. Oscar buzzing to share with you why it’s so important to take care of your diabetes and some scary complications that could happen if you don’t.
Consistently having high blood sugars can often lead to diseases affecting your heart, eyes, kidneys, teeth and nerves.
Heart Disease- affects your heart and blood vessels and can lead to difficulties such as coronary artery disease which can lead to a heart attack and stroke. High blood sugars, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure are contributing to cardiovascular complications.
Kidney Disease- high blood sugars cause damage to your blood vessels in your kidneys, causing them to not work as well or even fail all together. Kidney disease is very prevalent in diabetics.
Nerve Disease- high blood sugar levels can cause damage to nerves through out the body. This can lead to problems with digestion and a loss of feeling in your lower body, especially in your feet. Diabetics should have yearly feet exams.
Eye Disease- most people with diabetes will have some sort of eye disease, whether it’s glaucoma, cataracts, or retinopathy these all can lead to vision loss. It can be managed by lowering your A1C’s and having yearly eye exams.
Dental Problems- high blood sugars can lead to dental problems. You’re more likely to have infections of the gums and the bones that hold your teeth. High blood sugars may also cause dry mouth.
