If your diabetic, the parent of a diabetic or know someone who has diabetes it’s important to have a diabetic survival bag packed at all times which should include a variation of these items:
You should always your blood sugar meter with you even if your on a continuous glucose monitor, technology can malfunction and if you don’t have a tester you could be in for a sleepover nightmare.
Having extra test strips are important
In case of a low blood sugar you should always have either glucose tabs, a small juice or even a glucagon shot.
In the case of an emergency you should wear a diabetic bracelet or have a note stating that you are diabetic in your survival bag.
Now if you’re having a high blood sugar it’s a good idea to have ketone strips so you know if you are headed into diabetic ketoacidosis.
Whether you wear an insulin pump or not it’s a good idea to have extra insulin syringes with you as well as extra insulin.
Also if you do wear an insulin pump you should always have extra pump supplies and an inserter if you use one.
