  • Judge how well your reaching your diabetic goals

  • Understand how diet and exercise affects your levels

  • See how other things can affect your blood sugar, such as illness, periods etc.

  • Identify when your sugars are low or high

Testing your blood sugar is vital for diabetes management. It can help you:

 
  • Type 1 diabetics should test there sugar anywhere from 5 to 10 times a day

  • Before meals and snacks

  • Before and after exercise

  • Before bedtime

  • If your feeling sick, or if your blood sugar feels high or low

When to test your blood sugar:

 
  • Age

  • How long you’ve had diabetes and how severe

  • Pregnancy

  • Any diabetes complications

  • Overall health and if there’s any other medical conditions

  • People under the age of 59 with no other underlying medical issues, blood sugar range should be between 80 and 120

  • People over the age of 60 with other medical conditions range should be between 100 and 140
