Introducing Diabetic Daisy: A Story of the Day She Was Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes
Hey friends Dr. Oscar buzzing in to share with you a friend of mine who was diagnosed with diabetes as a very young kitten. Her name is Daisy and we want to share with you her story to show you’re not alone in your process.
Daisy was a young kitten, only about 3 months old. She enjoyed chasing ducks on her family farm, and drinking warm milk from Bessie the cow. Daisy had 2 siblings, her brother Winston and her sister Lola. She always looked forward to treat time with her brother and sister. Daisy’s favorite treat was tuna.
One night as Abby, her mother and Albert her father, were tucking the kittens in for the night, her mother noticed a large yellow pee spot on the blanket. Her mother asked the kittens “who had the accident.” Daisy raised her small paw.
Daisy wakes up in the middle of the night and notices she has wet the bed again. She starts to cry and her mother come in to the room. She tells her mom that she had another accident and was very thirsty. Her mother brings in a small glass of warm milk and changes the blanket.
Daisy lies down and tries to sleep, but is too thirsty, she walks to her parents room and asks for something to drink. Her father gets her a small glass of water and walks her back to bed. He notices the blanket is wet again, and he changes the bedding and tucks her back into bed.
Abby wakes in the morning to find Daisy sitting at the table with an empty milk jug and holds up her cup, begging for more milk.
